vox_divadlo2Vox nymburgensis is a chamber mixed choir registered under the Municipal Cultural Center of Nymburk. It was founded in 1988 by Mrs. Jaroslava Modrochová, Doctor of Arts, as an exclusive, flexible ensemble not limiting its efforts just to the choir literature of a single period, kind or style. Thus, in the choir repertoire are homophonic gregorian chants, as well as polyphonic compositions of renesance and baroque periods, works of classicism and romanticism, and, of course, compositions of 20th century to the present time. Also czech folk songs as well as the songs of many foreign nations.
The choir participated in the performances of the series of great works of the oratoral or cantata character (full oratoral work of A. Dvořák, G. B. Pergolesi, J. Haydn, W. A. Mozart, F. Schubert, Ch. Chounod, C. Franck, G. Puccini etc.). The choir strives to offer the comparison of the sacred and prophane music and to perform jazz, swing, spiritulas, gospel and popular music on the choral base.
In 2006 Vox has entered in the world of the opera by participating in Tomáš Hanzlík´s neobaroque-minimal opera Endymio. One year later a recording of it was made for Czech Radio.
The instant resolution of the choir is a confrontation of its performances with other ensembles during the competitions, assessed shows and festivals in Czech Republic and abroad. In 2005, f. e. obtained Gold medal of The International Choir Competition in Námestovo (Slovakia), in 2007 won the Price for the best foreign choir of The International Competition GAUDE CANTEM in Bielsko-Biala (Poland).
During 20 years Vox took part in various events in 11 countries of Europe (Danmark, France, Germany, Greece, Holland, Italy, Norway, Poland, Slovakia, Spain, Sweden) and South America (Argentina, 2003).
On the average, the choir gaves more than 30 public performances a year, where for approximately 400 bigger or lesser works of the choral literature (by more than 100 composers) have been heard on them. The choir can pride itself with the compositions dedicated to it or being performed for the first time in the world. Vox is in touch regularly with about ten foreign choirs and with number of choirs on an occasional base. The choir is an initiator of the International Festival of Sacred Music in Nymburk, „Days of Bohuslav Matěj Černohorský“.
The number of the active members rounds 26 with the age limit from 15 to 70 years. The average slightly above 40 shows the present of the mainly students-age members, in conjunction with founder members.
At the head of Vox were Mrs. Jaroslava Modrochová and Jan Krejčík, currently the choirmaster is Jan Mikušek.
